The ghosts in Vallejo would reveal a social and historical tension that appears in a veiled way and that says a lot about the poet’s conscience through the analysis of spectral criticism. This article investigates this contextual reading in order to illuminate aspects of the work that have not been examined until now.La aparición constante de fantasmas y dobles en Escalas, primer libro en prosa de César Vallejo, publicado en marzo de 1923 y que se compone de doce textos, entre reflexivos, poéticos y narrativos, lleva a pensar en la necesidad de una explicación más allá de las reconocibles influencias de la literatura gótica y el modernismo. Los fantasmas en Vallejo revelarían una tensión social e histórica que aparece de manera velada y que dice mucho sobre la conciencia del poeta a través del análisis de la crítica espectral. El presente artículo indaga en esa lectura contextual a fin de iluminar aspectos de la obra hasta ahora poco examinados.
