Through similes and metaphors, it is argued that the mother shares characteristics with living nature, but her absence in the present time affects the speaker; therefore, he resorts to the word to make up for this affective and communicative lack, but he is confronted with the (im)possibility of verbal language. Nuestra lectura plantea que el poema «madre», de Carlos Oquendo de Amat, expone una visión retrospectiva del locutor, como si se retrajera a un pasado idealizado, infantil y feliz, en el cual la figura materna le brindaba protección, afecto, seguridad y le enseñaba a hablar. Mediante símiles y metáforas, se representa a la madre como una figura que comparte características con la naturaleza viva; sin embargo, su ausencia en el tiempo presente afecta al locutor; por ello, recurre a la palabra para suplir esa carencia afectiva y comunicativa, pero se enfrenta con la (im)posibilidad del lenguaje.
