The first part presents a general description of the "neoinstitutional school" as a new attempt to extend the theory of price and apply it to social and political institutions. The main developments of this school are presented in such fields as the importance of the balance of powers, the stability of political decisions in Congress and the influence of pressure groups on legislators. Finally some recommendations derived from these models are presented to improve the functioning of the Peruvian democratic system.El artículo tiene como objetivo presentar el estado actual de la ciencia económica en el estudio de los procesos políticos y su importancia en la asignación de los recursos. La primera parte presenta una descripción. La primera parte presenta una descripción general del neo-institucionalismo, como corriente que busca generalizar la teoría económica para adaptarla al estudio de las instituciones sociales y políticas. Luego se revisan los principales avances de esta escuela en el estudio de temas como la importancia del balance de poderes, la estabilidad de las decisiones en el Congreso y la influencia de los grupos de poder en las decisiones de los legisladores.
