There is a set of robust results from complementary methodologies. First of all, labour experience and educational attainment of the entrepreneur have positive impacts on real income. Likewise, business legal registration and functioning in a fixed location are also important factors for the sustainability of the microenterprises over time.Dos de cada tres empleos en el Perú se generan en el trabajo independiente y la microempresa familiar. Este estudio hace uso del módulo especializado de «Ingreso del trabajador independiente» en empresas familiares no agrícolas de las Encuestas Nacionales de Hogares, entre el 2002 y el 2006, y estima un conjunto de modelos empíricos que tratan de explicar las diferencias en los niveles y las tasas de crecimiento real de los ingresos en estos emprendimientos. Se arriba a un conjunto de resultados robustos con una serie de metodologías complementarias. En primer lugar, destaca el significativo papel jugado por la experiencia laboral acumulada del microempresario, así como el impacto positivo de su nivel educativo. Asimismo, se confirma la potencialidad de la formalización de las empresas y la necesidad de funcionamiento en un local fijo para la sostenibilidad del negocio.
