The observed dynamics are different between countries, highlighting the relative stability in the results of most developed countries, evolution consistent with certain specific properties of the production function. Additionally, the paper identifies the problems in econometric specifications usually employed in the literature to estimate correctly the importance of dynamic factors in the generation process of human capital.Este documento explora el proceso de generación de capital humano en una perspectiva dinámica. Para ello: a) caracteriza la evolución reciente del capital humano, usando como proxy del mismo los resultados panel de los países participantes en la prueba PISA; b) explora diferentes especificaciones de la función de producción del capital humano capaz de generar los patrones dinámicos observados; y c) muestra la capacidad de distintas especificaciones econométricas empleadas usualmente en la literatura para detectar correctamente la estructura de dicha función de producción. Las dinámicas observadas son distintas entre países, destacando la relativa estabilidad en los resultados de la mayoría de los países desarrollados, evolución consistente con ciertas propiedades específicas de la función de producción.
