Parental occupation, family structure, attendance in pre-primary education, grade repetition, the student’s native language, and delay in schooling are factors that affect the probability of risk. At the school level, it is noteworthy that traditional factors such as school size, urban/rural location, and public/private management were not found to be significant.El estudio utiliza un modelo logístico multinivel aplicado a los resultados obtenidos por los alumnos peruanos en la ronda PISA 2012 para analizar los factores asociados al riesgo de bajo desempeño académico respecto al nivel 2 de competencias, considerado como línea de base en las pruebas de matemáticas, lectura y ciencias.El origen socioeconómico y la composición social de su escuela destacan como aquellos factores que afectan mayormente a los alumnos con riesgo académico. La ocupación de los padres, la estructura familiar, la escolaridad preprimaria, la repetición, la lengua materna del alumno y el atraso en la escolaridad son factores que acompañan la mayor probabilidad de riesgo. A nivel de la escuela, llama la atención que los factores tradicionales, tales como el tamaño, la localización urbano/rural y la gestión publico/privada no aparezcan como significativos.
