Descripción
Sumario:Adolescence is a period of life characterized by several demands to individual, which can be source of stress. Regarding this, adolescents draw on certain coping strategies but, at the same time, many of them also involve themselves in alcohol consumption. The objective of this study is to identify relationships between coping strategis and alcohol consumption in high school students. We carried out an exploratory transversal quantitative study, through stratified random samplig. Participants were 1555 students, 15 to 21 years old (43.3 % males), from three high schools of Guadalajara University. The Adolescent Coping Scale (ACS), CAGE questionnaire and AUDIT test were used. Results indicate greater use of the majority of strategies (productive and non productive) by alcohol consumers and positive correlations between consumption levels and coping strategies. These results are analyzed in terms of posible greater stress levels among consumer students.
