Based on this premise, and taking into account the ideas about art exposed by Oscar Wilde in his essay The decay of lying, an analysis will be carried out. This analysis has an immanent nature and it will focus on the narrative and discursive structures (concepts exposed in the hermeneutical model of Carlos García-Bedoya), using the concepts of plot and fable, narrator, spatialization and temporality. This analysis intends to prove that these syntactic components of the text are specifically related to its metafictional reflection.  El presente artículo postula que el cuento “El tema del traidor y del héroe” de Jorge Luis Borges presenta un carácter metaficcional, pues incide sobre la relación entre realidad y ficción, además de hacer hincapié, constantemente, en su propia naturaleza ficticia. A partir de esta premisa, y tomando en cuenta las ideas sobre arte expuestas por Oscar Wilde en su ensayo The decay of lying, se realizará un análisis del cuento. Este análisis tiene un carácter inmanente y se enfocará en las estructuras narrativas y discursivas (pertenecientes al campo de la sintaxis textual y expuestas en el modelo hermenéutico de Carlos García-Bedoya), empleando los conceptos de trama y fábula, narrador, espacialización y temporalidad. Se intenta demostrar que estos componentes sintácticos del texto están estrechamente relacionados con la reflexión metaficcional del mismo.
