description There is research whose results show a low or moderate level of communicative competence in the Peruvian population, which is why we seek to know if it is possible to strengthen the level of communicative competence through the development of reading comprehension. Therefore, the purpose of the research is to determine how reading comprehension affects communicative competence; likewise, to determine the correlation between the dimensions of reading comprehension (literal, inferential and critical) and communicative competence. Methodologically, the study design is descriptive-correlational. The sample is made up of 31 students in the fourth grade of secondary school at IE No. 1190 in Lurigancho-Chosica. In addition, a questionnaire and a test were applied for data collection. Finally, the results show that reading comprehension has a significant impact on communicative competence (p < 0.05; Rho = 0.746).

Por ello, el propósito de la investigación es determinar de qué manera la comprensión lectora repercute en la competencia comunicativa; asimismo, precisar la correlación entre las dimensiones de la comprensión lectora (literal, inferencial y crítica) y la competencia comunicativa. Metodológicamente, el diseño del estudio es descriptivo-correlacional. La muestra se encuentra constituida por 31 estudiantes del cuarto grado de secundaria de la IE n.° 1190 de Lurigancho-Chosica. Además, para la recopilación de datos se aplicaron un cuestionario y una prueba. Por último, los resultados muestran que la comprensión lectora repercute significativamente en la competencia comunicativa (p < 0.05; Rho = 0.746).Há estudos cujos resultados mostram um nível baixo ou moderado de competência comunicativa na população peruana, razão pela qual o objetivo é descobrir se é possível reforçar o nível de competência comunicativa através do desenvolvimento da compreensão da leitura. Portanto, o objetivo da investigação é determinar como a compreensão da leitura afecta a competência comunicativa; do mesmo modo, determinar a correlação entre as dimensões da compreensão da leitura (literal, inferencial e crítica) e a competência comunicativa. Metodologicamente, o desenho do estudo é descritivo-correlacional. A amostra é composta por 31 alunos da quarta classe do ensino secundário no IE n.° 1190 de Lurigancho-Chosica. Além disso, foram aplicados um questionário e um teste para a recolha de dados.
