We depict the rise and fall of the viceregal organization, looking into the political conflicts within the Huamalíes province, involving two social forces that not only broke that viceregal organization but were committed to organizing another way of governing the region adding the political participation of indigenous communities. Thus, we describe and analyze confrontations between the landowner Marques de Copa with the political resistance of Huallanca’s mining colonizers, explain the political meaning of a temporary triumph from the Caballeros Huallanquinos, and their political influence through the Alto Marañón territory. Finally, we present life stories linked to politics, mining, and livestock economy.Este ensayo explora la vida social, económica y política de la gente criolla e indígena de una región que se asienta entre la cordillera de los andes y la Amazonia central. Muestra la organización virreinal en su auge y quiebra política. Para este efecto, examinamos los conflictos políticos entre dos fuerzas sociales al interior de la provincia de Huamalíes que no solo fracturan la organización virreinal, sino que apuestan por organizar otra forma de gobernar la región con la participación política de los pueblos y comunidades indígenas. Así, describimos y analizamos los enfrentamientos entre el latifundista Marques de Corpa y la resistencia política de los colonizadores mineros de Huallanca. Analizamos y explicamos el significado político del triunfo temporal de los «caballeros huallanquinos» y, de su influencia política en el conjunto territorial del Alto Marañón.
