It is characterized by the formation of an irregular sheath, rounded, spindle shaped or lateral scales lumps, extremely hard and adherent, of white or black coloration, giving, to the touch, the feeling of small stones, and causing, in the hair, changes that ultimately make them gray, dry and friable. This disease has been observed in Europe and Japan. In South America was found, for the first time in Colombia, then in Brazil and then in Argentina, Paraguay and Venezuela.La "Piedra", llamada también "Tiña Nudosa", "Piedra de Colombia, Piedra Nostras", etc., es una enfermedad tropical parasitaria de los pelos del cuero cabelludo, pestañas, barba y bigotes, que ataca al tallo de éstos, pero no a la raíz ni el folículo. Se caracteriza por la formación de una vaina irregular, nudosidades redondeadas, fusiformes o en forma de escamas laterales, extremadamente duras y adherentes, de coloración blanquecina o negra, dando, al tacto, la sensación de pequeñas piedras, y originando, en los pelos, alteraciones, que acaban por hacerlos grisáceos, secos y friables. Esta enfermedad ha sido observada en Europa y Japón.
