Is the unbalanced crystalloid widely used in our country. It is isotonic but its composition is far from being physiological for the human organism. The chloride ion is the most abundant electrolyte after sodium with a key role in the regulation of body fluids, electrolyte balance, the preservation of electroneutrality, the basic acid state and is an essential component of many pathological conditions. The objective of the study is to update scientific knowledge on the effects of administering 0.9% Sodium Chloride with its high chloride load. Methodology. A search of articles in Pubmed, no more than five years after its publication, related to 0.9% Sodium Chloride and metabolic dilutional hyperchloremic acidosis was performed. Results. In this narrative review of the scientific literature it is confirmed that the infusion of 0.9% Sodium Chloride with its high chloride load, prolonged and / or in an important volume, can produce a hyperchloremic dilutional acidosis that would affect the internal environment, coagulation, vascular endothelium, renal, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal function. Conclusion. The high chloride charge in the 0.9% Sodium Chloride Solution induces obvious alterations in the organism that are explained by the law of electroneutrality and constancy of ions in the plasma. Monitoring of the hydroelectrolytic balance and acid base state is essential. Introducción. El Cloruro de Sodio al 0,9% (¿Solución Salina Fisiológica?) es el cristaloide no balanceado de amplio uso en nuestro país. Es isotónica pero su composición dista mucho de ser fisiológico para el organismo humano. El ion cloruro es el electrolito más abundante después del sodio con un rol clave en la regulación de los fluidos corporales, balance electrolítico, la preservación de la electroneutralidad, del estado ácido básico y es un componente esencial de muchas condiciones patológicas. El objetivo del estudio es actualizar los conocimientos científicos sobre los efectos de administrar Cloruro de Sodio al 0,9% con su alta carga de cloruro. Metodología. Se realizó una búsqueda de artículos en Pubmed, no mayor a cinco años de su publicación, relativos a Cloruro de Sodio al 0,9% y acidosis hiperclorémica dilucional metabólica. Resultados. En esta revisión narrativa de la literatura científica se confirma que la infusión de Cloruro de Sodio al 0,9% con su alta carga de cloruro, prolongada y/o en un importante volumen, puede producir una acidosis dilucional hiperclorémica que afectaría el medio interno, la coagulación, el endotelio vascular, la función renal, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal. Conclusión. La alta carga de cloruro, en la Solución de Cloruro de Sodio al 0,9%, induce alteraciones evidentes en el organismo que se explican por la ley de electroneutralidad y constancia de iones en el plasma.
