In Peru, apart from two case studies on this disease, the eighteenth century, Paul Petit, the other nineteenth century, José Manuel Valdés, have not done a historiographical study of this disease, to determine their age and mortality it causes. De los dos primeros se encuentran huellas en animales antidiluvianos, probando que son anteriores a la aparición del hombre sobre la tierra. Así se descubre un tumor en las vértebras de un apatosaurus, y una espondilitis deformante en la vértebra de un esmilodón, correspondientes al pleistoceno de California. En el Perú, aparte de dos monografías sobre esta enfermedad, una del siglo XVIII , de Pablo Petit , y la otra del XIX, de José Manuel Valdés, no se ha hecho un estudio historiográfico sobre esta enfermedad, para precisar su antigüedad y la mortalidad que ocasiona.
