For this author, which is interested is to investigate the emergence of a world-conscience in the context of the globalization and its multiple transformations.Luego de ofrecernos un recorrido por su intensa vida académica, desarrollada entre Europa y América, Gruzinski plantea el proyecto de una historia global, que abarque aspectos obviados por la historia de los estados nacionales. La monarquía española constituye la primera mundialización europea, donde el islam, el cristianismo y los cultos idolátricos interactuaban «a escala planetaria y de manera sincrónica».
