The peasants cherish the belief that their bite is deadly, or at least that mutilation produce gangrene or members, to the extent that sighted the animal as soon kill you as soon as they can.En las regiones áridas que circundan la campiña de Arequípa, cerca de los pequeños cacerías, en los cerros y en algunas pampas, en las que abundan piedras, tan frecuentes en el Perú, vive desde tiempo inmemorial un pequeño sauriano platidáctilo, que denominan "Salamanqueja", bien conocido por los campesinos y muy temido por ellos a causa de los efectos que ocasiona su mordedura.
