However, we know that historically the discovery and use of materials by man, has drawn almost inexorably the course of their own development. No wonder, therefore, that this science is largely responsible for the great technological advances that humanity is experiencing at the present time.Podemos decir que la ciencia e ingeniería de materiales como tal, surge al calor de los grandes proyectos Aerospaciales y de Defensa,que ha tenido como contendientes a los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica y la ex URSS en los años de la guerra fría. Sin embargo, sabemos que históricamente el descubrimiento y uso de los materiales por el hombre, ha trazado casi de manera inexorable el rumbo de su propio desarrollo.
