At the start, this article point out public projects and research results in Barrios Altos. In addition, there are two referential cases in Latin America: Quito and Old Havana. Finally, the research shows the study of how the mixed use of housing-storage sway in the low quality of public space in the Cinco Esquinas sector, Barrios Altos. The Space Syntax- Depthmap program is used for the analysis. Besides the following variables are considered: permeability, vehicular traffic, visual perception, storages, visual wealth, identity and activities in the public space. As a colophon, the article makes know the municipal control management and the need to have immediate legal processesare for the protection of the historic district.El presente artículo busca dar a conocer el gran riesgo que tiene Barrios Altos de perder completamente su patrimonio edificado por la presencia desproporcionada de depósitos. Al inicio del artículo se dan conocer los proyectos públicos y los resultados de las investigaciones más resaltantes. Así mismo, se presentan dos casos referenciales en Latinoamérica: Quito y La Habana Vieja. Finalmente se hace el estudio de cómo el uso mixto de vivienda-deposito influye en la baja calidad del espacio público en el sector de Cinco Esquinas, Barrios Altos. Para el análisis se hace uso del programa Space Syntax. Depthmap y además se considera las siguientes variables: permeabilidad, tránsito vehicular, percepción visual, depósitos construidos, riqueza visual, uso de los depósitos, identidad y actividades en el espacio público.
