The study was a narrative review based on the search for information in Pubmed, Science Direct, Lilacs, Medline, Google academic and external sources with the descriptors: “pedagogy in parasitology”, “curriculum by competencies”, “curriculum of the parasitology”, and “teaching of parasitology”. This review article analyzes and describes the currently prevalent pedagogy for teaching it, and the characteristics of the competency curriculum that make its use as a training strategy feasible, with the purpose of contributing to the exploration of new ways of teaching parasitology and to overcome the difficulties and new challenges that must be faced in this fundamental field of medical sciences. It is concluded that the competency-based curriculum allows orienting professional training in parasitology towards a profile with proven ability to solve tasks, enhance skills and correct weaknesses.Es fundamental la enseñanza de la parasitología humana para los estudiantes de las carreras de ciencias de la salud, especialmente la médica, por ser un importante problema de salud pública con distribución mundial. El estudio fue de revisión narrativa con base en la búsqueda de información en Pubmed, Science Direct, Lilacs, Medline, Google académico y fuentes externas con los descriptores: “pedagogía en parasitología”, “curriculum por competencias”, “plan de estudio de la parasitología”, y “enseñanza de la parasitología”. En este artículo de revisión se analiza y describe la pedagogía prevalente en la actualidad para enseñarla, y las características del curriculum por competencia que hacen factible su empleo como estrategia de formación, con el propósito de contribuir con la exploración de nuevas formas de enseñar la parasitología y de superar las dificultades y los nuevos desafíos que debe afrontarse en ese fundamental campo de las ciencias médicas.
