This article conducts a systematic review of value chain models and their impact on productivity in the fishing sector of the province of Santa Elena. Various methodologies used to assess and enhance operational efficiency, resource management, and competitive strategies in the local fishing industry are examined. The review focuses on identifying key factors that influence productivity, such as applied technology, supply chain management, and sustainable practices. Using a deductive methodology, both global and local environments are analyzed. By applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 20 articles on value chains and 15 on productivity improvement in fishing are analyzed, revealing findings that contribute to a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities to optimize the value chain and enhance competitiveness in this important economic sector, which remains under-researched and offers significant opportunities for improvement.
