description The objective of this study was to determine the importance of the existing environmental liabilities in the Sarampión micro-basin of the San Miguel de Sarampión community of the Bolívar canton, province of Manabí – Ecuador. The methodology was applied which included field visits to identify and georeference environmental liabilities, these were recorded in the standardized record instrument; Subsequently, the level of importance of environmental liabilities on the receiving body (Measles estuary) was established. The results indicate that there are 20 environmental liabilities, with waste accumulation persisting in 12 points; Also, two crop areas were identified on the bank of the estuary, two direct discharge points of residual water, two areas of obstruction of the estuary channel, an obstruction of the estuary bed and a cattle corral near the channel. In summary, it was obtained that 12 of the identified environmental liabilities have moderate importance, while 8 maintain high importance. In conclusion, the identified environmental liabilities denote an environmental deterioration of considerable importance, making it imperative that preventive actions be implemented to improve both the environment and the quality of life of the residents of the studied area.

La metodología fue aplicada la cual incluyó visitas de campo para identificar y georreferenciar los pasivos ambientales, estos fueron registrados en el instrumento ficha estandarizada; posteriormente se estableció el nivel de importancia de los pasivos ambientales sobre el cuerpo receptor (estero Sarampión). Los resultados indican que existen 20 pasivos ambientales, persistiendo acumulación de residuos en 12 puntos; también, se identificaron dos áreas de cultivos en la ribera del estero, dos puntos de descarga directa de agua residual, dos zonas de obstrucción del cauce del estero, una obstrucción del lecho del estero y un corral bovino cercano al cauce. En suma, se obtuvo que 12 de los pasivos ambientales identificados presentan una importancia moderada, mientras que 8 mantienen una importancia alta. En conclusión, los pasivos ambientales identificados denotan un deterioro ambiental de importancia considerable, por lo que resulta imperativo que se implementen acciones preventivas para mejorar tanto el entorno como la calidad de vida de los residentes del área estudiada.Esta investigação teve como objetivo determinar a importância dos passivos ambientais existentes na microbacia Sarampión da comunidade San Miguel de Sarampión do cantão Bolívar, província de Manabí - Equador. A metodologia aplicada incluiu visitas de campo para identificação e georreferenciação de passivos ambientais, os quais foram registrados em arquivo padronizado; Posteriormente, foi determinado o grau de importância do passivo ambiental no ambiente receptor (estuário do Sarampo). Como resultado, há 20 passivos ambientais, persistindo o acúmulo de resíduos em 12 pontos; Também foram identificadas duas áreas de cultivo nas margens do estuário, dois pontos de descarga direta de águas residuais, duas áreas de obstrução do leito do estuário, uma obstrução do leito do estuário e um curral bovino próximo ao leito. Além disso, constatou-se que 12 dos passivos ambientais identificados possuem importância moderada, enquanto 8 mantêm importância alta.
