There is no significant relationship between academic performance and empathy in students, the Pearson correlation coefficient between both variables is -.043 and bilat- eral significance of .628. The variable empathy was worked on in four dimensions: taking perspective, fantasy, taking perspective and personal discomfort. There is no significant relationship between aca- demic performance and perspective taking dimension, we obtained a Pearson correlation coefficient of.053 and bilateral significance of .552. There is no significant relationship between academic perfor- mance and the fantasy dimension, Pearson correlation coefficient of -060 and bilateral significance of.501. There is no significant relationship between academic performance and the empathic concern dimension, a Pearson correlation coefficient of -126 and significance of .208 was obtained, there is no significant relationship between academic performance and the personal discomfort dimension, a correlation coefficient was obtained of Pearson of .015 and bilateral significance of .871.El objetivo de la investigación es correlacionar la empatía con el rendimiento académico obtenido por los estudiantes de la Especialidad de Educación Primaria, Facultad de Ciencias Educación de la Uni- versidad Hermilio Valdizán de la ciudad de Huánuco en el periodo 2017-I. Método. Se realizó un es- tudio descriptivo correlacional con 128 estudiantes matriculados en el semestre 2017-I en la Escuela Profesional de Educación Primaria. Resultados y conclusiones. No existe una relación significativa entre rendimiento académico y empatía en los estudiantes, el coeficiente de correlación de Pearson entre ambas variables es -.043 y significancia bilateral de .628. La variable empatía se trabajó en cuatro dimensiones: toma de perspectiva, fantasía, toma de perspectiva y malestar personal. No existe rela- ción significativa entre el rendimiento académico y la dimensión toma de perspectiva, se obtuvo un coeficiente de correlación de Pearson de .053 y significancia bilateral de .552. No existe relación signi- ficativa entre rendimiento académico y la dimensión fantasía, se obtuvo coeficiente de correlación de Pearson de -.060 y significancia bilateral de .501.
