Parasitic susceptibility can occur indidually or in populations due to several factors, such as: parasite species, abundance, host health status (age, nutritional status) and competition between diferente types of parasites. This study reports the presence of Synthesium pontoporiae Raga, Aznar, Balbuena & Dailey, 1994 and Synthesium tursionis (Marchi, 1873) in Pontoporia blainvillei Gervais & D’Orbigny, 1844 found dead on the beaches of the mucipalities of Laguna, Imbituba and Garopaba, located on the southern coast of Santa Catarina, Brazil, between 2017 until 2020. A total of 144 specimens of trematodes were identified in 14 evaluated animals, with a prevalence of 35,71%, mean abundance of 10.28 and mean intensity of infection of 28.80. The average intestinal lenght was 8.96 meters, ranging from 1.90 to 29.10 meters. The occurence of parasites can be indicative of the relationship between feeding habits and the dispersion of animals in the ocean and, in the case of the presence of the Synthesium trematode, this knowledge is fundamental in the research for more information about the evolutionary cycle of this parasite. In this study, although the beaches where the animals were found are geographically very close, there were significant diferences, mainly between the intensity and parasite abundance, which demonstrates the need for further studies to understand the relationship between the findings in this study with the diet and the presence of possible intermediate hosts of this parasite in these regions. |

Este estudio reporta la presencia de Synthesium pontoporiae Raga, Aznar, Balbuena & Dailey, 1994 y Synthesium tursionis (Marchi, 1873) en Pontoporia blainvillei Gervais & D’Orbigny, 1844 encuentrados muertos en las playas de las municipalidades de Laguna, Imbituba y Garopaba, ubicados en la costa sur de Santa Catarina, Brasil, entre los años de 2017 hasta 2020. En total se identificaron 144 ejemplares de tremátodos en 14 animales evaluados, con prevalencia de 35,71%, abundancia promedio de 10,28 y intensidade media de infección de 28,80. La longitud intestinal promedio fue de 8,96 m, con un rango de 1,90 a 29,10 m. La aparición de parásitos puede ser indicativo de la relación dietética con las dispersión de animales en el océano y cuando se tracta de la presencia de Synthesium, es importante buscar mas información sobre el ciclo de vida de este parásito. En este estudio, aunque las playas donde se encuentraran los animales estan muy cercanas geográficamente, hubo diferencias significativas principalmente entre la intensidad y abundancia de los parásitos, lo que demuestra la necesidad de mas estudios para comprender la relación entre los hallazgos con la dieta y la presencia de posible huéspedes intermediários en estas regiones.A susceptibilidade parasitária pode ocorrer de forma individual ou populacional a partir de diversos fatores, como: espécie do parasito, abundância, estado de saúde do hospedeiro (idade, estado nutricional) e competição entre diferentes tipos de parasitos. Este estudo relata a presença de Synthesium pontoporiae Raga, Aznar, Balbuena & Dailey, 1994 and Synthesium tursionis (Marchi, 1873) em Pontoporia blainvillei Gervais & D’Orbigny, 1844 encontradas em óbito nas praias dos municípios de Laguna, Imbituba e Garopaba, localizados no litoral sul de Santa Catarina, Brasil, entre os anos de 2017 a 2020. No total 144 espécimes dos trematódeos foram identificados em 14 animais avaliadas, com prevalência de 35,71%, abundância média de 10,28 e intensidade média de infecção de 28,80. A média de comprimento intestinal foi de 8,96 metros, com variação de 1,90 a 29,10 metros. A ocorrência de parasitos pode ser indicativa da relação alimentar com a dispersão dos animais no oceano e em se tratando da presença de Synthesium é de extrema relevância para buscar maiores informações acerca do ciclo evolutivo deste parasito.
