The first report of Sporophila luctuosa (Lafresnaye, 1843) (Passeriformes, Thraupidae) “little nun of Salpo” for thewest part of the La Libertad region, Peru is confirmed. This species is distributed, translates to in the Andes Mountains of South America, from Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brasil until Bolivia. April 21 st, 2025, beingapproximately at 1:30 p.m. we observed a couple of adults, above the Casmiche bridge (route Casmiche-Salpo), among the 1500-1997 m already 7º53’43,8” S y 78º 38’40,1” W, an episode that constitutes the first record of the species, Salpo district, La Libertad region, Peru. This confirms that S. luctuosa is expanding its geographic range toward the western slopes. In addition, a comparative analysis is made with the taxa closest to S. luctuosa with which it shares some common characteristics such as Sporophila ardesiaca (Dubois, 1894), Sporophila caerulescens(Vieillot, 1823), Sporophila leucoptera (Vieillot, 1817) y Sporophila nigricollis (Vieillot, 1823).
