The larvae were photographed and identified with the support of specialized literature. According to the results, four species of Lepidoptera stinging larvae were identified, corresponding to Acharia stimulea (Clemens, 1860) (Limacodidae) in heliconias, Phobetron hipparchia (Cramer, 1777) (Limacodidae) in mango and loquat, Megalopyge opercularis (Smith, 1797) (Megalopygidae) on hibiscus and Automeris metzli (Salle, 1853) (Saturniidae) on the soil. These results are close to what was found in a research previously carried out on horticultural crops in Cerro Punta; where the families Limacodidae, Megalopygidae and Saturniidae were also represented by four species, being M. opercularis and A. stimulea the ones that coincided in both locations. In conclusion, four species of stinging larvae of the Order Lepidoptera were identified, associated with backyard crops in Volcán, Chiriquí; which can potentially cause erucism in people. It is recommended to make more disclosure on the matter, to prevent possible effects on health.El objetivo del estudio fue identificar las larvas urticantes del Orden Lepidoptera, encontradas en cultivos de traspatio en el Corregimiento de Volcán, Provincia de Chiriquí, Panamá (8°46’ N 82°38’ O, 1378 m s. n. m.). Para ello, se realizaron cinco recorridos aleatorios, revisándose el suelo, la vegetación silvestre, cultivos frutales y plantas ornamentales. Las larvas fueron fotografiadas e identificadas con el apoyo de literatura especializada. De acuerdo con los resultados, se identificaron cuatro especies de larvas de Lepidoptera urticantes, correspondientes a Acharia stimulea (Clemens, 1860) (Limacodidae) en heliconias, Phobetron hipparchia (Cramer, 1777) (Limacodidae) en mango y níspero japonés, Megalopyge opercularis (Smith, 1797) (Megalopygidae) en hibisco y Automeris metzli (Salle, 1853) (Saturniidae) en el suelo. Estos resultados son próximos a lo encontrado en investigación realizada previamente en cultivos hortícolas de Cerro Punta; donde las familias Limacodidae, Megalopygidae y Saturniidae también estuvieron representadas por cuatro especies, siendo M. opercularis y A. stimulea las que coincidieron en ambas localidades. En conclusión, se identificaron cuatro especies de larvas urticantes del Orden Lepidoptera, asociadas a cultivos de traspatio en Volcán, Chiriquí; las cuales potencialmente pueden ocasionar erucismo a las personas.
