The research corresponds to the quantitative approach and the experimental level, with a quasi-experimental design with pre- and post-test. The sample consisted of 77 students (experimental group) and 63 (control group), who were applied pre and post test to measure their communication skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and investigative (observe, describe, analyze, synthesize and interpret). The instruments used to collect data were the written test and the rubric. The statistical analysis was based on the difference of means with Z distribution, with a confidence level of 95.0%. The results reflect that formative research has positive effects in the development of communicative and investigative skills; having passed, after the experiment, the qualifications obtained in the pre-test at 4.12 points, going from a poor level to a good level. In terms of communication skills, knowing how to speak and know how to write were the ones that developed the most. In relation to investigative skills, the ones that developed the most were analysis, synthesis and interpretation. These results show that, due to its effectiveness, formative research must become a permanent and gradual activity in university education.
La investigación buscó aplicar la investigación formativa, utilizando estrategias como: levantamiento de información, seminario investigativo y monografía para mejorar habilidades comunicativas e investigativas en estudiantes universitarios.  Estas estrategias estuvieron ligadas a un perfil de docente promotor que maneja metodología de la investigación y la incorpora en su práctica pedagógica. La investigación corresponde al enfoque cuantitativo y al nivel experimental, con un diseño cuasi experimental con pre y posprueba. La muestra estuvo constituida por 77 estudiantes (grupo experimental) y 63 (grupo control), a quienes se les aplicó pre y pos prueba para medir sus habilidades comunicativas (escuchar, hablar, leer y escribir) e investigativas (observar, describir, analizar, sintetizar e interpretar). Los instrumentos utilizados para recoger datos fueron la prueba escrita y la rúbrica. El análisis estadístico se basó en la diferencia de medias con distribución Z, con un nivel de confianza del 95,0%. Los resultados reflejan que la investigación formativa tiene efectos positivos en el desarrollo de habilidades comunicativas e investigativas; habiendo superado, luego del experimento, los calificativos obtenidos en la prepueba en 4,12 puntos, pasando de un nivel deficiente a un nivel bueno. En cuanto a las habilidades comunicativas,  saber hablar y saber escribir fueron las que más desarrollaron. En relación a las habilidades investigativas, las que más se desarrollaron fueron el análisis, la síntesis y la interpretación. Estos resultados demuestran que, por su efectividad, la investigación formativa debe convertirse en una actividad permanente y gradual en la formación universitaria.
