In the Argentinean scientific literature, this issue is usually approached from a quantitative point of view, and no studies were found that sought to understand the subjective aspects of this experience in children. Therefore, this study aims to describe loneliness from the perspective of children aged 8 to 12 in the city of Posadas and to analyze childhood loneliness from the the multidimensional model of Hymel et al. (1999) to assess its suitability. A qualitative and descriptive study was carried out. The sample consisted of 34 children aged between 8 and 12 years. With the consent of the children’s parents, semi-structured interviews consisting of four questions about loneliness were conducted, recorded and then transcribed. The categories proposed by the original authors of the model were used to score the responses. The results allowed us to characterize loneliness from the perspective of the participants and showed that the multidimensional model is suitable for assessing loneliness in the city of Posadas, with certain categories standing out: emotional concepts, companionship, and temporary absence, belonging to the affective, cognitive and cognitive dimensions.

En la literatura científica argentina, esta temática se suele abordar desde un enfoque cuantitativo, pero no se hallaron estudios que busquen comprender los aspectos subjetivos de esta vivencia en la población infantil. Por ello, los objetivos de este estudio son describir la soledad desde la perspectiva de niños y niñas de entre 8 y12 años de edad de la ciudad de Posadas y analizar la caracterización de la soledad infantil en la región a través del modelo multidimensional de Hymel et al. (1999) para demostrar su idoneidad. Para ello, se realizó un estudio cualitativo y descriptivo, cuya muestra estuvo conformada por 34 niños de entre 8 y12 años. Para la recolección, se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas, compuestas por cuatro preguntas acerca de la soledad, a niños y niñas. Estas entrevistas, que fueron grabadas y luego transcritas, se hicieron con el consentimiento de sus padres y el asentimiento de los menores para participar de manera libre y voluntaria en la investigación. Se utilizaron las categorías propuestas por los autores originales del modelo multidimensional para evaluar las respuestas. Los resultados permitieron caracterizar la soledad desde la perspectiva de los participantes y demostraron que el modelo multidimensional se adecúa para evaluar la soledad en la ciudad de Posadas.
