Currently, teaching methods in the field of mathematics have incorporated new relevant information, which leads to the construction of spaces where the teacher and the student interact to build knowledge that can be applied in different situations and contexts. This article refers to different research related to the importance of recognizing reading comprehension in the development of mathematical competencies. In order to develop the topic, a bibliographic search in databases was carried out, obtaining that reading comprehension is transversal to the curriculum, providing a series of basic knowledge in the interpretation of words and concepts necessary in the construction of the approaches required to achieve the expected results, allowing both teachers and students to advance significantly in the development of the solving process with verbal content.Las matemáticas constituyen una de las áreas fundamentales en la formación de los seres humanos, no solo en el proceso mismo de resolución propio de esta ciencia exacta, sino también, en todos los ámbitos de la vida; desde su implementación en las instituciones educativas se ha venido investigando sobre cómo a partir de esta se puede responder a los avances globales y Nacionales en la formación de ciudadanos competentes en diferentes campos relacionados con la consolidación de los valores democráticos, los cuales la hacen un referente primordial en las políticas educativas de los gobiernos y los currículos escolares. Actualmente los métodos de enseñanza en el campo de las matemáticas han incorporado nueva información relevante, lo que conlleva a la construcción de espacios donde el docente y el estudiante interactúan para construir conocimiento y que este pueda ser aplicado en diversas situaciones y contextos. El presente artículo hace referencia a diferentes investigaciones relacionadas con la importancia de reconocer la comprensión lectora en el desarrollo de las competencias matemáticas.
