description There is a growing interest in studying the various resistance mechanisms of Pseudomonas aeruginosa due to its high resistance to antibiotics, resulting in limited therapeutic options. The objective of this study is to provide a detailed description of the various resistance mechanisms of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, taking into account the structural and genetic characteristics of this bacterium. For this article, a literature review was conducted. The search was performed using the keywords "Pseudomonas aeruginosa," "Bacterial genes," "Bacterial proteins," and "Resistance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa." Twenty-five articles were identifed, of which 21met the inclusion criteria. Pseudomonas aeruginosa exhibits several resistance mechanisms determined both genetically and structurally. These various mechanisms were classifed as intrinsic, acquired, and adaptive. The intrinsic mechanisms are the natural antimicrobial resistance of the bacterium. The acquired mechanisms are those that the bacterium can develop through mutations in its own genes or through the horizontal acquisition of mobilegenetic elements. The adaptive mechanisms are those that the bacterium develops to adapt to environmental circumstances. It is evident that Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a high-risk bacterium due to its high resistance, limited therapy options, and its ability to cause highly dangerous infections in humans.

Existe un creciente interés en el estudio de los diversos mecanismos de resistencia de la  pseudomonas aeruginosa debido a su alta resistencia a antibióticos que dan como resultado opciones terapéuticas limitadas. El objetivo de este estudio es realizar una descripción detallada de los diversos mecanismos de resistencia de la Pseudomonas aeruginosa tomando en cuenta las características estructurales y genéticas de dicha bacteria. En el caso de este artículo, se realizó una revisión bibliográfca. La búsqueda se realizó utilizando las palabras clave “Pseudomonas aeruginosa”, “Genes bacterianos”, “Proteínas bacterianas” y “Resistance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa”. Se identifcaron 25 artículos, de los cuales 21 cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión. Pseudomona aeruginosa presenta varios mecanismos de resistencia determinados, tanto genéticamente como estructuralmente. Estos diversos mecanismos se los clasifcó en intrínsecos, adquiridos y adaptativos. Los intrínsecos son la resistencia antimicrobiana natural de la bacteria. Los adquiridos son aquellos mecanismos que la bacteria puede desarrollar a través de mutaciones en genes propios o de la adquisición horizontal de elementos genéticos móviles. Los adaptativos son los mecanismos que la bacteria desarrolla para adaptarse a las circunstancias de su entorno.
