The essay explores the concepts of “theme” (Flinn, 1999:167-168); “dramatic question” (Selbo, 2007: 201-209); and “meaning” (Russin, 2012: 38-42) as they appear in screenwriting manuals from an academic point of view. Considering the perspectives of narratology, semiotics and Aristotelic Poetics the article relates the concept of “meaning” with the unifying principle of the story and the aspects of the human experience the story shows.Este artículo propone que la noción de “sentido” tal como la plantea Juan José García-Noblejas (1982) es capaz de iluminar la escritura de guion y la recepción cinematográfica. El estudio explora desde el ámbito académico lo que los manuales de guion llaman “tema” (Flinn, 1999: 167-168), “pregunta dramática” (Selbo, 2007: 201-209), o “significado” (Russin, 2012: 38-42) de una historia. A partir de la narratología, la semiótica y la poética aristotélica, se sugiere que la noción de “sentido”, como principio de unidad de la historia, está relacionada con los rasgos de la vida humana a los que una película apunta.Universidad de Piura.
