From the middle of the 1980s, more in-depth studies have been carried out on the project, whose scope has gradually extended to the daily lives of its citizens. It is then when European authorities start to perceive the dangerous “division” between elitists and citizens.La actual Unión Europea hunde sus raíces en la creación de las Comunidades Europeas, surgidas a mediados del siglo XX. Durante largo tiempo, este ambicioso proyecto de integración internacional fue conducido de manera elitista y tecnocrática y, en muchas ocasiones, incluso a espaldas de la opinión pública. A partir de mediados de los años 80 del siglo XX, comienzan a producirse significativas profundizaciones en el proyecto, cuyo alcance se irá extendiendo progresivamente a la vida cotidiana de los ciudadanos. Es entonces cuando las autoridades europeas comienzan a percibir el peligroso “divorcio” entre elites y ciudadanía.Universidad de Piura.
