An instrument with three versions was elaborated, based on the theoretical framework proposed by Gámez y Marrero (2003). The evidences confirm significant dif¬ferences in the goals and motivations; these differences are more noticeable between students of the careers of Primary Education and Languages (sig. <.001), and between Kindergarten Education and Languages (sig.<.001). Finally, the goals and motivations were largely differentiated according to the gender (sig.<. 005), being the average for women (prom.=139.3/sig.<.005).La investigación es de tipo comparativa, transversal. Tuvo el propósito de comparar las metas y motivos en la elección de una carrera profesional en 347 estudiantes que cursaban los primeros ciclos de Educación Inicial, Educación Primaria; e Idiomas, todos en un rango de 20 a 22 años. Se elaboró un instrumento con tres versiones, basado en el esquema teórico planteado por Gámez y Marrero (2003). Las evidencias rati¬fican diferencias significativas en las metas y motivos, siendo más acentuadas entre los estudiantes de la carrera de Edu¬cación Primaria e Idiomas (sig.<.001) y entre Educación Inicial e Idiomas (sig. <.001).
