In this way, the objective of the study was to analyze the relevance of the teaching strategy for the development of mathematics learning at the higher level. The methodology was based on a qualitative and quantitative perspective; both students and university teachers could be surveyed and interviewed. The results showed that many teachers use outdated teaching strategies and do not show technological mastery in the development of classes, as well as formulate inadequate perceptions of the students' ability to understand mathematics. It was possible to conclude the urgent need to implement educational practice by strengthening the professional skills of teachers, both pedagogical, digital and investigative.La enseñanza de las matemáticas en el nivel universitario ha suscitado interés investigativo en los últimos años debido a la presencia de estrategias didácticas activas e innovadoras que han evidenciado mejoras sustantivas en el logro de aprendizajes. De esta manera, el objetivo del estudio consistió en analizar la relevancia de la estrategia didáctica para el aprendizaje de las matemáticas en el nivel superior. La metodología se fundamentó bajo la perspectiva cualitativa y cuantitativa, se pudo encuestar y entrevistar tanto a estudiantes como a docentes universitarios. Los resultados evidenciaron que numerosos docentes utilizan estrategias didácticas desfasadas y no muestran dominio tecnológico en el desarrollo de las clases, así como formulan percepciones inadecuadas en la capacidad de entendimiento de las matemáticas en los estudiantes.
