An examination of numerous 17th century notarial records, along with a census of September 1686, suggests that the surname Lachos was used to establish noble and founding lineages. Indeed, it is possible to reconstruct the dynasties of the caciques through the use of the female surname Lachos and its relation to the local lords. We also note the incursion of foreign women adopting the name, suggesting that is was a common practice to employ the name Lachos when settling in the locale. Este artículo intenta explicar un fenómeno observado en los archivos regionales de Cajamarca: la frecuencia del apellido Lachos, casi exclusivamente llevado por mujeres. A partir del examen de los protocolos notariales de la villa, disponibles para el siglo XVII, por un lado, y de un padrón de indios elaborado por los curas franciscanos de las cuatro parroquias de Cajamarca en septiembre de 1686, por el otro, avanzamos que se trata de una inscripción voluntaria de este apellido en los registros de la escritura pública de la villa, con el afán de asentar por escrito las genealogías cacicales. De hecho, es posible reconstituir las dinastías de caciques a partir de las prácticas notariales de las mujeres Lachos que están vinculadas a los señores locales.
