For this reason, the first step of the investigation must consist of stripping that famous divinity of the Christian disguise that the missionaries and the chroniclers put on him. For this we will ask ourselves: Why did the missionaries want to make Viracocha a creator god? And how did they make him a creator god? We find the answer to the first question by analyzing the ideological and theological tendencies of missionary Spain in the 16th century. The answer to the second question is in the same chronicles.Las fuentes escritas coloniales están repletas de datos sobre Viracocha, pero muchas veces estos datos parecen contradictorios. Lo son, más que por el derecho de información, por la mala interpretación de parte de los autores de las crónicas y relaciones post-incaicas. Por esto, el primer paso de la investigación debe consistir en despojar a quella divinidad tan famosa del disfraz cristiano que le pusieron los misioneros y los cronistas. Para esto nos preguntaremos: ¿Por qué quisieron los misioneros hacer de Viracocha un dios creador? y ¿Cómo hicieron de él un dios creador? La respuesta a la primera pregunta la encontramos analizando las tendencias ideológicas, teológicas de la España misionera del siglo XVI.
