Fueron muchos y muy diferentes los recursos imaginarios empleados por los abolicionistas para expresar la idea del esclavo víctima.One of the main tasks of the abolitionists was to create a general feeling of empathy in favor of the slaves. To spread such a feeling, it was necessary, above all, to build an image of the slave as a dependent human being, without his own will, totally subject to the power of the master. The image of the slave as a victim would create empathy around the slave.
