One of the first problems that the Spanish authorities and eminent citizens had to confront was that of the first generation of mestizos, children born in legal or illegal unions, generally between Spaniards and indigenous women.A través del estudio del recogimiento, una institución para mujeres y niñas que aún se encuentran en los márgenes de la investigación histórica, se puede acceder a nuevas perspectivas sobre los mecanismos sociales y económicos del periodo colonial temprano.
