We postulate that the international economic system, capitalism, is constantly transforming.  El presente artículo tiene dos propósitos: presentar datos históricos y etnográficos de la Southern Peru Copper Corporation, en especial  de sus campamentos en Ilo y Toquepala; y ubicar los datos en una perspectiva analítica que nos permita sacar no sólo conclusiones acerca de la trayectoria de esta empresa y su fuerza laboral, sino que también nos ayuden a entender el proceso laboral dentro del sistema de capitalismo transnacional e diversos lugares del mundo.
