The term encompasses two main meanings: the actions of guiding and accompanying, possibly related to interregional travels and herding, and the symbolic connection between birds and camelids, as indicated by its translation to pichón. This prompts an investigation into the dynamics between High Andean shepherds and their flocks.En este trabajo reflexionamos sobre el irpado, en el marco del ritual de señalakuy. Descrito por los pastores como un «matrimonio de los animales», su nombre proviene de irpa, nombre dado a los animales «casaderos», que procrearán durante el año entrante. El término tiene, al menos, dos acepciones: por un lado, las acciones de acompañar y conducir, que podrían asociarse tanto a los viajes interregionales como al pastoreo. Asimismo, se traduce «pichón», remitiendo al vínculo simbólico entre aves y camélidos.
