Starting from the effort to understand the specificity of European economic and social development compared to Asian societies, Marx developed the concept of an Asian mode of production which would have prevented private ownership of the means of production from fully developing in Eastern societies with its later implications. This course of history would have been determined first of all by differences in the forms of agricultural production.Cada manera de producir tiene precondiciones y consecuencias sociales muy específicas. El desarrollo de las fuerzas productivas, en las diversas etapas de la historia y en diferentes regiones lo muestra con mucha claridad. Partiendo del esfuerzo de comprender la especificidad del desarrollo económico y social europeo frente a las sociedades asiáticas, Marx desarrolló el concepto de un modo de producción asiático el que habría impedido en las sociedades orientales se desarrollara plenamente la propiedad privada de los medios de producción con sus implicaciones posteriores.
