The objective of the rebels was the same in all the haciendas where the revolt broke out.En el mes de setiembre de 1870 se produjo una rebelión de culíes chinos que se prolongó a varias haciendas del valle de Pativilca. Todo comenzó en la hacienda de Araya en la parte media del valle, y rápidamente se extendió a otros fundos. Inicialmente fueron cien los chinos sublevados. Al cabo de doce horas los asiáticos eran entre 1,200 y 1,500.
