spelling Ideación suicida pasiva y activa: una breve descripción: Passive and active suicidal ideation: a brief description Baños-Chaparro, JonatanIn the assessment process, health professionals often evaluate for the presence of suicidal ideation to rule out any risk of suicide attempt. However, it is necessary to understand that suicidal ideation is not a static construct. On the contrary, it is ambivalent and differs in severity from passive suicidal ideation to active suicidal ideation. Because the likelihood of suicidal behavior may occur due to the severity of suicidal ideation, the assessment of active suicidal ideation has been primarily emphasized. However, recent research indicates a high prevalence of passive suicidal ideation in clinical samples and in the general population. Therefore, the aim of the manuscript is to provide a brief description of passive and active suicidal ideation, as well as its comorbidity with other emotional disorders. In that sense, both types of suicidal ideation and their importance of assessment in professional practice are conceptually addressed. While the detection of passive suicidal ideation may provide a venue for prevention strategies, it should not be underestimated for more comprehensive follow-up and assessment, as such passive ideation can quickly become active. Therefore, it is recommended that health care professionals assess passive and active suicidal ideation together for adequate suicide risk exploration. Universidad de Ciencias y Humanidades (UCH)2022-06-30info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttp://revista.uch.edu.pe/index.php/hgh/article/view/170Peruvian Journal of Health Care and Global Health; Vol. 6 No. 1 (2022); 42-45Peruvian Journal of Health Care and Global Health; Vol. 6 Núm. 1 (2022); 42-45Peruvian Journal of Health Care and Global Health; v. 6 n. 1 (2022); 42-452522-727010.22258/hgh.2022.61reponame:Health care & global healthinstname:Universidad de Ciencias y Humanidadesinstacron:UCHspahttp://revista.uch.edu.pe/index.php/hgh/article/view/170/11110.22258/hgh.2022.61.111Derechos de autor 2022 Jonatan Baños-Chaparrohttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessoai:ojs.openhgh.org:article/1702022-12-20T17:22:36Z
