Sumario:Objective: To identify and analyze the factors associated with oral hygiene in children from 0 to 3 years of age at the El Vecino del cantónCuenca, Ecuador. Material and Methods: The study design was quantitative-descriptive; the sample comprised 259 parents of children aged 0 to 3 years old. Data were collected through a survey validated by experts in the area. The association between variables was evaluated by means of contingency tables and chi-square analysis. Results: It was shown that 50% of the children brushed their teeth twice a day; 39% use fluoride concentrations of 1000-1100 ppm; 31.27% brush twice a day and their parents have secondary studies; 23.94% use toothpaste with fluoride of 1000 to 1100 ppm and their income is over than $400; 25.01% of children aged 0 to 2 years place the equivalent of a grain of raw rice on the toothbrush (0.1 mg F) and 19.31% of 3-year-old children place the equivalent of a pea grain (0.25 mg F). Conclusion: Associations were found between toothbrushing frequency and parents' level of education, as well as the amount of toothpaste and children’s age. Parents with higher economic incomes use fluoride toothpaste for their children's oral hygiene.
