Overall, the impact of abnormal nutrition depend on the level at which the nutritional factor acts, the specific nature and intensity of nutrient imbalance. The types of impacts are different: death, tissue abnormalities, growth retardation, abnormal cell differentiation and malformations. Therefore, improving the prognosis of pregnancy will depend in part on increased knowledge about nutritional requirements and to educate the community about the unwanted effects of nutrient deficiencies and excesses.El embrión mamífero es completamente dependiente de la madre para su nutrición. Es absolutamente necesario mantener, en esta etapa de la vida, un correcto equilibrio entre los nutrientes circulantes de la sangre materna. Esta normalidad bioquímica depende de la dieta de la madre, sus reservas nutricionales y sus idiosincrasias metabólicas. En general, las repercusiones de una nutrición anormal dependen del nivel al cual el factor nutritivo actúa, la naturaleza del nutriente específico y la intensidad del desequilibrio. Los tipos de repercusiones son diferentes: muerte, alteraciones de tejidos, retraso de crecimiento, alteraciones en la diferenciación celular y malformaciones.
