In this review we present conditions associated to a higher prevalence of infections in the woman in fertile age, septic shock causes, types of acute pelvic inflammatory disease, causative agents of higher genital tract infections, sepsis pathogenesis, clinical presentation, etiological diagnosis, initial resuscitation and antibiotic therapy and criteria of hospitalization. We wish this presentation be a contribution on sepsis and shock management in an intensive care unit.La presencia de sepsis o choque séptico en una mujer en edad fértil es una de las mayores preocupaciones de la medicina moderna, no solo por el impacto que suscita en una persona en etapa productiva sino que las infecciones que complican a estas pacientes en la mayoría de casos deviene de una aplicación inadecuada de las medidas de bioseguridad y de prevención de infecciones en un sistema de salud. En la siguiente revisión, se presenta las condiciones que se asocian a una mayor prevalencia de infecciones en la mujer en edad fértil, las causas de choque séptico, tipos de enfermedad pélvica inflamatoria aguda, los agentes causales de las infecciones del tracto genital superior, la patogenia de la sepsis, el cuadro clínico, el diagnóstico etiológico, la resucitación inicial y antibioticoterapia y los criterios de hospitalización.
