Accelerated progress will be required to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG); countries will need to reduce their MMRs at an annual rate of at least 7·5%(1).El Objetivo de Desarrollo del Milenio 5 señala una reducción del 75% en la razón de mortalidad materna (RMM), entre 1990 y 2015. La información proveniente de 171 de 183 países indican que la RMM global cayó de 385 defunciones por 100 000 nacidos vivos (intervalo de incertidumbre de 80%-UI 359 a 427) en 1990 a 216 (207 a 249) en 2015, correspondiente a una disminución relativa de 43·9% (34·0 a 48·7), con 303 000 (291 000 a 349 000) muertes maternas en todo el mundo en 2015.
