Women below 146 cm were 3,5 times more likely to have a cesarean section than taller women (RR = 3,5; CI,1-11, 6). CONCLUSIÓN: Short maternal height is associated with more cesarean section rates.OBJETIVO: Determinar si la talla materna baja(<146 cm.) se asocia con mayor incidencia de cesárea en el primer parto. Diseño: Estudio de cohorte histórica. PACIENTES: Noventa y cuatro puérperas en su primer parto (47 con talla < 146 cm y 47 ³ 146 cm) de 19 a 34 años de edad, con embarazo a término e inicio de trabajo de parto espontáneo y sin otros factores de riesgo para cesárea. RESULTADOS: En las puérperas de talla baja, la incidencia de cesárea fue 29,8% y en aquellas con mayor talla fue 8,5%. Se encontró que había asociación estadísticamente significativa entre talla baja y parto por cesárea (X2=6,9, g.l=1, p<0,05). Además, las mujeres con talla menor a 146cm tenían 3,5 veces más probabilidad de experimentar cesárea que las de mayor estatura (RR=3,5, IC= 1,1-11,6).
