Didactically we divide the mechanism of human fertilization in several phases: sperm activation, incorporation of the sperm the ovum cytoplasm, metabolic activation of the ovum. pronuclei formation, pronuclei migration, and initiation on of the first cellular division and initial development. Some special considerations are also done regarding the mechanisms al epigenetic regulation in early development, and some implications on biological development in scientific names identifying these stages.Se realiza una revisión actualizada respecto a los conceptos actuales basados en la biología del desarrollo temprano (hoy combinando conocimientos de biología celular y genética molecular), de una forma accesible y haciendo consideraciones desde la ciencia básica para sus implicaciones con la clínica. El trabajo se desarrolla dividiendo el mecanismo de la fecundación humana en varias fases, con fines didácticos: la activación espermática, la incorporación del esperma hacia el citoplasma del óvulo, la activación metabólica del óvulo, la formación de los pronúcleos, la migración de los pronúcleos, y fa iniciación de la primera división celular y el desarrollo inicial.
