Correct management of each case with current knowledge will remarkably improve results in a wide range of fetal pathologies. It is necessary to make diffusion of this subspecialty so that people may have opportunity in improving fetal health. A change in health lineaments is needed incorporating national prenatal screening programs that will help diffusion and training of professionals for public health service and private practice.La medicina fetal debería conceptualizarse como aquella que no solo diagnostique y trate patologías fetales, sino también prevenga y dé seguridad de normalidad, usando una tecnología de alcance universal y de demostrada eficacia. El beneficio del diagnóstico prenatal en la detección de los problemas fetales es indudable, sea cual fuere la gravedad de estos. Un manejo adecuado a cada caso, de acuerdo con el conocimiento más actualizado, permite mejorar notablemente los resultados para una amplia gama de enfermedades fetales leves o graves. Es necesario ampliar la difusión de esta subespecialidad, para que la población tenga acceso a alguna oportunidad en el mejoramiento de la salud fetal. Se requiere cambio de óptica en los lineamientos de salud e incorporar programas de detección prenatal a nivel nacional.
