RESULTS: 26 women (86,7%) with mysoprostol plus oxitocin and 9 (34,6%) with oxitocin alone had vaginal delivery (p < 0,001). The adverse effects and complications were not statistically different. CONCLUSIONS: A 50 m g single dose of vaginal mysoprostol is effective and safe for cervical ripening and labor induction.OBJETIVO: Determinar la eficacia de la dosis única de 50 m g de misoprostol por vía vaginal, en la maduración cervical e inducción del trabajo de parto, y establecer los efectos secundarios y complicaciones de su uso. MATERIAL Y METODOS: El presente estudio caso control fue realizado en el Hospital Loayza entre los meses de noviembre y diciembre de 1995. El estudio comprendió a 30 mujeres a quienes se les aplicó 50 m g. de misoprostol intravaginalmente y oxitocina en infusión continua. RESULTADOS: 26 mujeres (86,7%) con misoprostol y oxitocina y 9 (34,6%) con oxitocina sola tuvieron parto vaginal (p<0,0001). Los efectos secundarios y las complicaciones no fueron estadísticamente significativos.
