SEASONAL VARIATION PREECLAMPSIA. ARCHBISHOP LOAYZA NATIONAL HOSPITALVARIACIÓN ESTACIONAL DE LA PREECLAMPSIA. HOSPITAL NACIONAL ARZOBISPO LOAYZAContreras Carrillo, HugoEspinosa, DanielEstremadoyro, VaninaINTRODUCTION: Recent studies describe a seasonal variation in the prevalence of preeclampsia. Most find an increased prevalence in winter. OBJECTIVES: To determine whether there is a seasonal or monthly variation in our midst in the prevalence of preeclampsia. DESIGN: Retrospective descriptive transversal. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Data from 7,923 pregnant women whose delivery occurred between December 1, 1999 and on 30 November 2002 at the Archbishop Loayza Hospital in Lima was reviewed. to patients with mild and severe preeclampsia it was identified and determined by multiple logistic regression analysis, variation in the prevalence of the disease, in relation to the month and season of birth. RESULTS: The prevalence of preeclampsia was 14.2%, with 28% of them severe. The prevalence in September (17.8%) and June (17.3%) was higher than in February (11.1%) and December (11, 5%); For severe preeclampsia lower prevalence was found in spring (2.8%) over the summer, so that there was more prevalent in winter (16.6%) over the summer (12.7%) (p <0.05 (4.8%) (p <0.05), so that the proportion of severe pre-eclampsia was lower in spring (21.4%) than in summer (38%) (p <0.05). CONCLUSIONS: In our environment, prevalence of preeclampsia was higher in the cold months of winter and spring, the severe form of preeclampsia was presented to a lesser extent in recent months.INTRODUCCIÓN: Estudios recientes describen una variación estacional en la prevalencia de preeclampsia.
